Amazon review:
British electronics wunderkind Richard James (alias Aphex Twin, AFX, Polygon Window, etc.) claims he heard the compositions on Selected Ambient Works, Volume II in lucid dreams. Like abstract paintings composed of shades of a single colour, James's resonant explorations of specific timbres linger close to a central idea on each cut, incorporating just enough variation to remain disturbing. While its predecessor, Selected Ambient Works '85-'92 drew on seven years worth of material, the uniform quality of these untitled tracks, plus their judicious sequencing, suggests they were assembled over a shorter period. Clocking in at over 150 minutes, the double-disc set (if this is 'selected', how many hours of outtakes remain?) provides an exemplary introduction to the quieter facets of James's expansive, idiosyncratic aesthetic.
AMG review:
Selected Ambient Works, Vol. 2 is a more difficult and challenging album than Aphex Twin's previous collection. The music is all texture; there are only the faintest traces of beats and forward movement. Instead, all of these untitled tracks are long, unsettling electronic soundscapes, alternately quiet and confrontational; although most of the music is rather subdued, it is never easy listening. While some listeners may find this double-disc album dull (both discs run over 70 minutes), many listeners will be intrigued and fascinated by the intricately detailed music of Aphex Twin.
Notes from Wikipedia
The names for the tracks listed, as aforementioned, are interpretations of the monochromatic (black-and-white or red-and-white) photographs on the center sticker for the vinyl copies and inlay for the double CD release. On the Sire Records (US) editions, various photos were altered, either by showing unblurred photographs or by changing the image altogether. The image representing '[stone in focus]' was removed entirely, leaving behind an empty white box.
There are three different versions of SAW2 available for purchase. The most complete, with all 25 tracks, is the Limited Edition UK vinyl, which is pressed on brown vinyl, and was limited to a press run of 10,000 copies. The second most complete versions are the regular vinyl release and the Warp Records (UK) CD release, which has every track except for '[stone in focus]', due to both discs nearly being maxed out. The third most complete version is the Sire Records (US) CD release, which strangely also omits '[hankie]'. The only hard-copy digital form of '[stone in focus]' can be found on the Astralwerks compilation Excursions In Ambience: The Third Dimension. On this compilation, it has been given the name '#19' and appears as track number 10.

Though Aphex Twin's 'Selected Ambient Works: 85-92' is primarily an ambient piece, it actually has some great appeal. Songs like 'Xtal', 'Tha' and 'Pulsewidth' are incredibly relaxing and soothing pieces (ambient classics!). The electronic noises are superb - you'll love most every song on this album.
